How to create an easy contemporary gallery wall
Gallery walls are totally still a thing, right? I mean, in my world they are because I just love to create spaces for artwork or family photos to be shown off. You might remember me talking about this once or twice already... Once when I posted about our family gallery wall, and once when I was just a baby blogger and created a more eclectic gallery wall (don't judge me for this one, ok?).
This month I decided to try Opposite Wall to create a gallery wall in our upstairs landing because it's a bit of a boring and bland space. The thing I immediately loved about Opposite Wall was that their prints are super modern and the colours are neutral. I had a hard time picking just 5!To help me put the gallery wall together, I used their "DIY Gallery Wall" inspiration to help me get started and then put a template together using the prints I liked.
I knew I wanted a bit of wood to warm up the space, so I used their oak frames in the raw oak finish. I was super pleased with everything when they arrived!I laid them all out on the floor so I could figure out spacing between each of the frames, which ended up being about 2.75" to make everything line up properly.
I got the prints inside (they fit perfectly) then I started putting everything up. All I used were a hammer, some nails, a level and painter's tape to mark the spacing between each frame.
The pints are hung quite high for two reasons:
- They are at eye level to whoever is standing in the upstairs hallway, but because there's so much empty space below them, it looks like they're hung too high.
- This way I know for sure the kids won't be bumping into them when they go downstairs or when they jump from the hall into the landing. Insert eye-roll #lifewithboys
And that's it, basically! So easy, right? Here's what the hallway looked like before:
