Kids Shared Bathroom

Having the kids share their own bathroom is great - they each get their own sink, and I don’t have to deal with the seat always being up when I use the toilet in the middle of the night! That said, it did take us about five years to actually finish this space. It sat with only one usable sink and no shelves plus only primer on the walls until I knew I couldn’t take it anymore and had to do something about it.

This is where my friends at American Standard Canada came in! They helped make the biggest impact on this space with the most perfect sinks and faucets. The sinks we had before were awful as they weren’t nearly deep enough so water always splashed out, and don’t get me started on the cheap faucet we were using or the fact that the other sink went without one for five whole years! Before that, this bathroom was awkward and had essentially no storage space.

Here’s a visual of the space for you so you get a good idea of what I mean:

So overall, it wasn’t great! But you know what they say, good things take time. I decided to begin with the paint for this project - I selected Benjamin Moore’s ‘Silver Satin’ OC-26 for the trim work on one wall then chose Benjamin Moore’s ‘Stone Harbor’ 2111-50 for the rest of the space. I built some floating shelves into the nook, which honestly made a huge difference and added so much useful storage space!

I also went ahead and cut new holes for the American Standard Boxe sink. This Boxe Sink is the PERFECT shape and size, not to mention super durable since it's made of fine fire clay. The generous bowl depth with a center drain is what attracted me to this specific sink in the first place. The boys used to always splash water all over the vanity, but now I never have to worry about that! One less thing to clean, yes, please!

One of my goals for this space was to mix the traditional elements, like the tile pattern, plaid shower curtain and millwork with pegs with the more modern elements, like the vanity, mirrors, sinks, and the perfect Serin Widespread High Arc Bathroom Faucet in Polished Chrome. To be honest, the entire Serin Bathroom Collection from American Standard is one of my favourites. This collection features stoic lines and graceful function to help bring a minimalist sensibility to your bathroom. I truly feel like this bathroom has been transformed into the boys’ very own spa-like oasis (if only they knew how lucky they were). I also have to admit that the matching arc of the faucets and sconces makes me giddy with joy!

Now that we’ve seen the stars of the show, how about some good ol’ fashioned before and after shots? Because I have to tell you, seeing these makes all the work totally worth it!

The scale of the sinks and mirrors made such a difference in this bathroom, and let me tell you, these Boxe Above Counter Sinks are the perfect size. The matte black and chrome finish keeps the bathroom neutral, and I love being able to mix and match. American Standard’s Polished Chrome finish is also incredibly easy to keep clean because let’s remember, two little boys use this bathroom!

The other neutral elements means this bathroom will grow with the boys and we can always add colour through different accessories!

So there we have it, five years in the making. Sometimes renovations take time, and they sure tend to take longer when there are two little kids involved! It feels great to finally have this room completed, and I’m super grateful to my friends at American Standard Canada for working with me on making this happen!
