Hello friends!!!!Long time no blog, I know. I've been a busy bee working on many many projects, as you may have kept up with on Instagram with some sneak peeks! Well now you get the full tutorial for one of my favourite projects lately - a little black and white beauty!

Kate Spade-Inspired Storage by The Learner ObserverI can't even explain to you how obsessed I am with this. Who doesn't love a little something Kate Spade Inspired? As you can see from the image above, I'm kind of obsessed with black and white... if you didn't catch that already from my kitchen chairs and my recent table/lamp makeover! Here's what I used to make this:

  • 1 IKEA KASSETT box
  • Black electrical tape

Yes, that's it. Material count is TWO! Now let's start by putting the box together. It's IKEA, and I do love me some IKEA, but everything is complicated to put together. Now that you're frustrated and ready to eat a chocolate bar, pull out your electrical tape.

Kate Spade-Inspired Storage by The Learner ObserverI used a piece of tape on each corner rather than measuring and drawing on perfect lines first. This meant I got to eyeball the lines with some sort of guide.

Kate Spade-Inspired Storage by The Learner ObserverKeep going...using the same strips of tape as you move up the box.

Kate Spade-Inspired Storage by The Learner ObserverAbout 20 minutes later you'll have this:

Kate Spade-Inspired Storage by The Learner ObserverOh that reminds me... the lid! I went the "opposite" way on the lid. It's the "right" way when you see the box from the side though...

Kate Spade-Inspired Storage by The Learner ObserverDoes that make sense? I also opted not to put tape on the side of the lid because the measuring would have been crazy and the size of the tape wouldn't really work, and I really just didn't feel like it was necessary.

Can we just look at this box again, please?

Kate Spade-Inspired Storage by The Learner ObserverI do kinda sorta wish that the hardware was gold because... duh! I love gold! But the silver is nice and neutral, and it works!

This might just be the shortest blog post I have ever written - I needed to point that out!For you visual folks, here's the full tutorial:

Kate Spade-Inspired Storage by The Learner ObserverThoughts on my little experiment? As always, I love to hear from you. I'm thinking I need to use the second box that came in the package to make another striped box, but maybe in the opposite direction? Or in a different colour? Maybe in copper? Oooooh!!!
