One Word for 2014

I’m hopping on this “one word” bandwagon.

Actual bandwagon – source

Shame on me?

or

Good for me?

I’m going with the latter because I’ve seen so many people focus on one word for their year and the positive effects this can have and I have had my word on my mind for weeks and weeks now just simmering and slowly causing me to think and rethink.  This is already positive change, without me even announcing it.  But I’ll announce it.  I’ll tell you what it is.

Oh you want me to tell you now?

Oh, okay.  Here it is.

Consistency 2014Yep.  That’s the word that’s been on my mind for weeks!  I want to be and remain consistent in several things.  I’d like to consistently:

  • grow in my faith.  I’m thankfully part of a wonderful church community that allows and promotes that in many ways, but I want to personally take responsibility for my spiritual growth.
  • take care of my health and my body.  And no, I don’t just mean by working out.  I’d like to have better eating and beauty routines so that’s going to be a big part of my learning this year as I settle into my thirties!
  • give.  Without looking back, without a second thought.  I want to give more time, more love and more resources to causes and people.
  • encourage others.  It’s so easy to fall into the pit of comparison when you’re a blogger woman person.  I’m going to take any thoughts of comparison and turn them into words of encouragement because let’s face it, that’s just way better.
  • blog.  Of course!  I’d like to work on a better schedule – more on that in tomorrow’s post!

I’m certain that there are other things I could add to this list, but I’m keeping it short (for now).  The beauty of lists is you can always go back and edit them.

I’d love to know what your word is, dear reader!

Thanks for the inspiration . It makes me think about one word for the new year. For me it will be GRATITUDE . I have so much to thank for and I will try to be grateful for everything in my life in many ways. You are sooo inspirational

  2. WHY DOES EVERYONE HAVE THEIR WORD FIGURED OUT EXCEPT FOR ME?! *sobs*
But really though, how did you decide on this one? First Lauren, now you, it seems everyone is having an easier time with this than I am. Le sigh.
However, I am of course very happy for you that you’ve found your word for the year :) And now also intrigued for tomorrow’s post..!
    xx

    • You know, there’s no timeline on finding your word :)
I don’t think I really decided, it just felt like something I needed. I felt like I needed to follow through on stuff and I almost went with “follow through” was my two words, then consistency felt better. Soooooooo don’t worry about picking a “word”, just go with what feels right!
      xo

  3. Happy New Year Thalita! I hope the new year brings you continued blessings! I think the word for me would be POSITIVITY. I’m my own worst enemy sometimes. It’s so easy to get drowned out by your negative thoughts. Thanks for this, great post! :)

    • Happy New Year, Amy!!! I hope this year brings you nothing but joy! Positivity is a great word. You’re always so positive towards others, so why not yourself, right?

  4. I really like your word. Mine this year is abide. I have a quiet time with the Lord each morning and each day so far He has shown me where to abide. When looking it up in the dictionary I find it is something I must do so we are going to work on this together.
    Love your blog.

    • Ellen, what a beautiful word you chose, and a wonderful way of describing it, too! Thank you SO much for sharing that. Those last three little words just made my whole day week! You are a gem!!!! xo

  5. Having one word for the year is such a great idea. You’ve got me thinking what mine would be now haha xx

    D Is For…

  6. I really love this “one word” thing, but I’m unable to choose a word… But anyway I love your goals and I need to have them as well as mine! Thanks :)

    Love, Midsommarflicka

  7. I didn’t know that there was a word bandwagon… I feel like I’ve been missing out because I don’t have one! Unacceptable. I’ll have to think one up now :)

Love your word – I think ‘consistency’ is sooooo hard and therefore a great challenge. Imagine how fantastic you’ll feel at the end of the year when you’ve realized your goal of being more so! Also? I love that you posted a photo of an actual bandwagon, with the caption ‘actual bandwagon’. I seriously laughed so hard :D

    • HAHA There is a bandwagon for everything in this life, I’m sure!!! The nice thing is just like resolutions you can actually pick one whenever you want, it doesn’t have to be just in January, but it’ll be our little secret!

I am the least consistent person in the world. It’s awful! I’m gonna have to try so darn hard!!!!

HA! I debated the caption and I think I actually meant to get rid of it, but now I’m glad I didn’t!
