The Learner Observer

Happy Saturday, friends!

I don’t know what it’s like in your neck of the woods, but it’s sunny (and freezing cold) over here!  I’m choosing to focus on the sunny part, though…

I wanted to share with you today beautiful images from blogs I love love love to go back to again and again and again.  Specifically, I’m sharing a little bit about styling surfaces today because frankly, it’s something I sometimes struggle with because I feel limited.  Limited by what?  I don’t know… I just feel like I can’t do it.  Inspiration always helps, right?  Just so you know, all images and headings with the blog names are linked to the source, so click away!

Emily Henderson

I can’t get enough of her.  Honestly, if you do not follow her in some capacity (Instagram is great and her baby is super adorbs), start now!  She does AAAAHHHHH-MA-ZIIIIIIING work!  Check it…

Shot_6_008I mean, seriously?  Those leather chairs are ridonc.  As in ridonculously awesome!  But LOOK at the shelves behind them… It almost makes you forget there’s a TV in between them!

Shot_7_042SO. MUCH. COLOUR!  And yet it’s not overwhelming.  I love it.  Loooooove it.  Can I also just point out that if Emily Henderson can hoard magazines, so can I.  She makes it look awesome, though… I gotta work on that!

Shot_8_193A little close-up for ya.  That dog painting is too cute, and the one below it of the 3 girls is so whimsical and sweet, very unlike the stout gent on the shelf above them.  He’s all, “Hmph.  This dog won’t stop staring at me.”

Shot_8_240The other side is just as great with lots of gold, yellow and blue.  Both shelves are so well-balanced, which is key!

La Buena Vida

Confession: I’m new to this blog, but ever since I found it, I can’t stop staring.  There’s a lot of beauty here!

12386079614_91ab5e2aa3_bOkay… YES!  This is like rustic-comfortable-chic-minimalist and I heart it.  Lots.  The texture on the couch is great, and check out that tiny shelf above it!

12385790253_31494e1cf6_bSee?  It’s amazing.  The picture taped to the wall, the casually hanging greenery and that little mouse!  It’s all in the details here.

12385837173_bc95d50730_bI’d be a total liar if I said I didn’t want this to be my house.  I love the simplicity of ferns.  Mix them with an orchid, roses and a fabulous copper watering can?  Magic.

12480078514_991339e3fb_bMy fave.  The way the books are turned.  That fan.  Again with the ferns.  And that tall spiky plant, which I have been told is called a Snake’s Tongue?  Whatever.  This is perfectly styled.

Style Me Pretty – Living

Style Me Pretty is the bees knees and we all know it.  This post on how to style a coffee table has already been read (by me) like 5 times.

caitlinflemming_031$!400xTwo is better than one?  Sometimes!  I love this idea because it’s beautiful and versatile.  It’s so much easier to move around small pieces when you need the space for entertaining!

img_5993$!400xI gotta say, I kind of love the idea of a full coffee table.  Granted, in my house that would never work, but there is beauty in these stacked books!  It’s a busy surface, but in a calm room I think it totally works!

smphometours_077$!400xA little closer to my reality.  Usually you can find a laptop and a blanket living on our coffee table/ottoman.  It works.  Comfort is always good!

gallery walls 10$!400xBe still, my heart.  I mean… whoa!  The white with black accents and the wood on the floors totally speak to me.  This is the ultimate rustic-girly right here.

Alright, that’s all for the inspiration images for today.  But there is ONE more thing… The winner of the $50 Etsy Gift Card!

Congrats to…

Juliee F.!

I’ve sent you an email.  Please confirm you’ve received it within 48 hours or I’ll have to pick a new winner.

I do hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend, and for my fellow Ontarians, happy Family Day long weekend to you!

Thanks for this post. I struggle with styling too. This is some nice inspiration. Emily Henderson’s layering has a lot of lessons to learn from. I like the pictures propped against the wall and the items in front and the dishes on top of the stacks of books. I’ve tried to do both those things, but I can’t say as I feel I’ve been successful yet.
We’re having a sunny, cold Saturday here too. Even better, the first day of a three-day weekend. I will definitely be enjoying my Family Day!

So glad I’m not alone in the great styling battle! Emily Henderson just gets it… She’s so great! I’m with you. I’ve tried but haven’t succeeded… Yet! Hooray for long weekends! Enjoy!! :)

Okay, so you know what I love even more than beautifully styled homes that are super duper drool-worthy? Hearing Thalita talk about beautifully styled homes that are super duper drool-worthy. Seriously, you are so engaging, girl, and you use words like “ridonc” that make me smile and wish we could go to coffee tomorrow afternoon and gab about our magazine hoarder tendencies for hours upon hours upon hours.

I heart you! That is all.

Haha I wasn’t sure if I should keep the ridonc, you know? I mean I say it all the time but sometimes typing it feels way different. Now I’m glad I did it because you liked it!!! P.S. I wish for the same thing like alllll the time and I heart you right back!!!!
