The Friday Five: {Tree} Stumped

The Friday Five - 2Ola friends!  I hope you have had a fantastic week!  I have been a busy busy little bee with the current SEVEN projects we have happening around our house.  That was not an all caps typo… we have seven big things on the go as you can read about in my exasperated post from earlier this week.  Ready for a little inspiration for your weekend?  I know I sure am!

Here are this week’s picks:

Styling Shelves2Are you ever looking at your shelves/open cabinets and wondering why it just doesn’t look like one of the Anthropologie displays you know and love?  No?  That’s just me?  Well if you ever find yourself in a situation such as this, or you just happen to have a few shelves to style, read this post by Ashley of The Domestic Fashionista!  Oh and while you’re at it, check out some of her other posts because she is super talented, super adorable, and her house is B-E-A-UTIFUL!

taco mix-001I like tacos.  Do you like tacos?  Tacos are delicious and awesome.  How could anyone not love them?  Well here is one more reason to eat tacos – making your own taco seasoning.  Yes… no extra sodium, MSG, and crazy ingredients I like to try to pronounce and undoubtedly fail to do so correctly.  This mix calls for 7 ingredients, all of which can be purchased at your local grocery store or better yet, bought in more specific, as needed quantities at, say, a Bulk Barn.  (Dear American friends, I’m sorry if you do not have the awesome red and yellow bulk food stores in your area, but if you’re curious, here‘s what they look like to us Canadians.) Go ahead and thank Jami at Hello from the Nato’s for this one!

stump-table-and-buffet-1691Hello, there beautiful!  Oh… I was talking to the tree stump, but you, too, are beautiful!  I have been tree trunk obsessed.  I want them as tables in out living room so badly, and possibly even as bedside tables for the master bedroom, maybe even as a little reading nook companion in the eventual office space we will have.  Obsessed.  I told you.  Sugar & Cloth will how you how to beautify a pair with some gold spray paint if you’re lucky enough to score one of these!  P.S. if you know where I can get one for free or almost for free, don’t be shy… hook a sista up!

ikeaThe IKEA catalog is coming.  I repeat: the IKEA catalog is coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It’s like Christmas!!!  Aren’t you so excited?  I can’t wait for it!  There are some really weird additions, and some really cool ones.  Go see them all here!!  Oh, and here too!  I hope these sneak peeks are enough for you to forgive my overuse of the exclamation mark up there.

funny-boredom-father-lessonWhat a great lesson!  And not just for kids, either… If you want to see a couple more, go here.

Don’t forget to go over to The Thinking Closet to see Lauren’s very own five picks this week!  Missed last week’s intro to the fabulous Lauren?  No problem… check it out here and see the rest of our amazing comic strip too!  Now go on and read The Friday Five: Elevator Joy Bomb {she has some super fun GIFs and a video that I am in love with!}

Happy, happy weekend!

    I get more excited about the new IKEA catalog than I did when I was younger and would get toy catalogs at Christmastime. I don’t even live close to an IKEA anymore but I still want to flip through those glossy pages. And, oh! That doll furniture!

      Ugh… it’s like one of those things I just CAN’T get! So frustrating! I have started a Pinterest board for shelf styling – it’s that bad! LOL!

        I have a Pinterest board for styling, too! So, it’s not bad at all, hahaha! I’ll take all of the ideas and inspiration I can find!

    I don’t know why, but I’m so enamored by the steam coming off of that bowl of taco goodness…it almost has hypnotic qualities! (Random aside.)

    Anyway, love love love these awesome finds. Thanks for clueing me into the new IKEA catalog coming out. I cannot wait to see what else I can hack. (I’m a hacking addict now, it seems.) And I’m off to check out that link on styling shelves. I could use some guidance in that arena. I feel like my only trick is the horizontal book display.

    Hope your week is off to a fantastic start, my friend!

      Honestly, the steam is what sold me on the whole thing. That, and I just can’t say no to tacos! The thought of the new IKEA catalog has me on the edge of my seat permanently! I just cannot wait! I am also an addict to your mad hacking skills – I want more, not gonna lie!
      Oh and I have the same trick… which is not helping me with my styling kitchen shelving dilemma! haha! Hence, the new Pinterest board :)
