Art That Matters... In The Bedroom [+ GIVEAWAY]

Yes.I am the crazy blogger who is sharing a non-holiday related post with you at the end of November. On Black Friday. Why? Because I'm a rebel and a rule breaker! HA!Seriously, though, I wanted to share this with you because the artwork in our Master Bedroom is some of my favourite artwork in the whole house because all of it is jam-packed with memories/meaning/love. Bedroom Artwork with Meaning - The Learner ObserverYou might remember this view from the One Room Challenge posts. Slowly but surely I'm covering all aspects of the room makeover and so far we've covered the tufted headboard tutorial. Now let's talk about the stuff on the walls!Bedroom Artwork with Meaning - The Learner ObserverAbove the bed I have a RIBBA picture rail and [from left to right] a thrifted piece of art ($3), Alex's vows to me on our wedding day (which was his gift to me on our 1st anniversary), a sweet 'love' print by the talented Lindsay of The Penny Paper Co. (which I luckily won in a giveaway, and now you can too!), 'kisses' word art (part of a wedding gift from one of my besties), and a DIY art project I tried out this Summer!Bedroom Artwork with Meaning - The Learner ObserverWant to see more of the DIY artwork? Here's what I used:Materials-required-for-the-gorgeous-DIY-abstract-painting-projectThere was no method to the painting, just fun! After it dried, I followed the instructions on the gold foil packaging and added it in random places. Again, not much thinking involved. The whole thing cost very little since the canvas was from the dollar store, the paint I already had on hand and the gold foil has been used for several projects. I'd say it probably cost about $4 to make this!DIY-Abstract-Painting-with-Gold-Foil-Adding-the-golden-glintAnd voila! She's finished!Display-your-latest-abstract-art-creation-proudlySo that's it for the art above the bed. Now on my side of the room we have another RIBBA ledge and it holds several pieces I love dearly!Bedroom Artwork with Meaning - The Learner ObserverAgain, from left to right, we have a thrifted brass and glass case I thrifted, the "messy" print from the talented Sara of Topknot Weddings, a brass horse (another thrift store find), a photo from our engagement shoot, another piece of thrifted art that I originally wanted to change, but ended up falling in love with, an Eiffel Tower from our visit to Paris this Spring, a Garance Doré card because it's black, white and gold, and reminds me of Alex saying "bonjour!" to everyone we saw while in Paris, and finally an IKEA clock that I've had since I was about 18. It has been stuck at 5:20 forever because I can't stand the ticking noise it makes! This is not at all about function, as you can tell. It's about having things around me that I love to look at. That's it!Bedroom Artwork with Meaning - The Learner ObserverOn Alex's bedside we have a large mirror and the vows I said to him on our wedding day - a gift I got him for our 1st anniversary. We totally did not plan that, I swear!Bedroom Artwork with Meaning - The Learner ObserverAlso on the wall on his side is a print we found at an antique store in Versailles. It was €8 because it has a water stain on it, but I loved it so much, I didn't even care!Bedroom Artwork with Meaning - The Learner ObserverI love that it's an original piece of art, that it's unfinished, and that it's black and white! All I did with this was use double sided tape to attach it to a piece of black bristol board, then I taped that to the back of an old frame I found for $1.50, which also has an imperfection on the bottom.I love the imperfections.Bedroom Artwork with Meaning - The Learner ObserverNow here's a part of the post you might REALLY love!Lindsey from The Penny Paper Co. oh so kindly offered to give away not one, but THREE of her incredible prints!
