Chalkboard Wall
Before we get going with this wall, just a note that husband and I celebrated one year of being home owners! It was cool to think back to when we got the keys and excitedly came to OUR HOUSE! Crazy how time flies...Ok so let's talk about this chalkboard wall. Wait, what do you mean you don't want to see another chalkboard project? That can't be true... everyone loves a good wall you can write all over with no fear of permanent damage! Right?
I updated the front entrance slightly. It has taken me about 3 weeks to finish this project fully - I did it in 15-20 minute increments, which is why it took so long. I'd like to tell the story with pictures, so here we go.
This is the antique frame I bought a couple of months ago, without any real plans for it. It was $8 and I paid $6 for it. Amazing? Yes. It was quite dusty, so I thought I might have to paint it, but the colour is just perfect. I just removed the nails all around the frame, the two hooks on either side and that shoelace - somehow I knew the shoelace wouldn't stay!
This is how the wall progressed over the weeks. I painted one evening, thinking the painter's tape would do the trick in keeping the black paint off of the trim. Nope! I conditioned the chalkboard as you read about when I made the living room chalkboard. It's an important step, though it sucks on a larger scale like this! Chalk dust everywhere! Luther, of course, had to rub himself on the freshly painted trim. Gotta love him!
I hung up the frame and got to "measuring" for the key hooks (which I got at Dollar Tree - $1 for all 16 hooks!). I spaced them out somewhat evenly, then realized I made the marks way too close to the frame! Thankfully I realized this after just the first one! If you look closely you can see the hole just below the frame, but I'm not concerned with perfection when it comes to this wall!
So there you have it! The before and after. You can see I started this project a long time ago - The gallery wall wasn't even done yet when I painted! My husband is the artist behind the quote in the frame, and I drew the rest, keeping with the simple, fun and carefree tone of the message. It's such a great addition of our view when walking into the house! And, seriously, who doesn't need a chalkboard wall, right?This makes me want to have more chalkboard walls in the house!
