DIY: Spray Painted Alphabet Mat
Did you even know you could spray paint a cotton mat? I'm not gonna lie, I didn't think it was doable, but Tiffany Pratt has officially made me a spray-painting convert! In her new book, This Can Be Beautiful, she spray painted a simple cotton doormat, and it turned out so beautifully. So when Tiffany and Krylon challenged me to recreate the project in my own way, using some of the colours in her new line of spray paints (yeah, she has her own collection. How cool is that?!?!), I was all in!Truth be told, my wonderfully talented friend Julie from Elliven Studio actually inspired me to try this idea, so I have her and Tiffany to thank for this project. Here it is!The kids absolutely love pointing at all of the letters so I can name them, and the mat is still super soft, even after being painted! Here's how I did it:Starting with the plain mat, I used painter's tape to roughly (and I do mean roughly... just look at that "B") layout the alphabet. Then, I started with Chalky Finish paint in Ultramarine around the sides, including the fringe. Then I continued with Waterfall and finished it off with Morning Sky in the middle.I waited for the paint to dry for a couple of hours, then peeled back the tape, and that was it!Such an easy project and I love the ombre effect of the blues.I put the mat in the boys' room, and it goes so perfectly with all of the blues in there!I've even considered hanging it on the wall for a major pop of colour, and so they can have a large scale alphabet to look at as well. And there you have it, friends. A super easy project for your kids and you can do it start to finish at nap time!Pin it for later!*This post was sponsored by Krylon, but all opinions are my own.
