Here it is: the "new" house!
Truth time: I took photos of the house the very day we got keys, but I honestly haven't had a second to post about it! This post may or may not have taken me an embarrassingly long time to write, also. Like days! But I'm not here to whine, I'm here to share with you what our house looked like when we purchased it and so you can officially say, "yep, they've gone insane!"Ready?Let's start with the exterior. The colours alone are just....ummmm...well they're indicative of what you're about to see inside! This is exactly the view as you step into the house. Stairs and a long hallway that is not as narrow as it looks here. And a fancy-ass boob light. Oh and that wallpaper has men drinking beer on it. No, I'm not lying. Yes, I'm keeping it. haha k, now I'm lying. And this is the view if you turn around from that spot. A pretty narrow entry, but we'll be changing that! There's a large living/dining room at the front of the house, and I'm almost positive there were things living in that carpet. See the men with beers? I told you. Fun fact: ALL of the wallpaper borders in this house had people on them. Keep scrolling. It actually gets better. This is a pretty great space, though, and my favourite part about it is that huge window that looks out to the front porch. So good.Further down the hall is the kitchen and powder room to the right. And another fancy boob poking out. I love boob lights for no other reason than their name. I am a child. The kitchen. It's white! Anyone who saw photos of this room said to me "Oh, you must love the kitchen! It's white!" To which I responded...."what???????" I mean, sure, it's white, but it's got shiny white cabinets and zero functionality. And another one of those lights! Actually, this room (house) has a LOT of lights. Not much to see here. It's a bathroom. With wallpaper. And stucco walls. Here's the hallway from the back of the house. The door to the left leads to the basement and out to the garage. There's a small landing there. We'll be opening up that space too (bye bye closet) to make it more functional, since it'll be our main entry into the house. The family room is at the back of the house and has a fireplace, which I love! Things I do not love: that the fireplace is off to the side and that they covered up the brick with cement and then this stone facing which was basically falling off. Major changes happening here. Major! If you want to see some, check Instagram - I post as often as I can to my story and you can see what's happening in this room!Oh, if you're curious about the obscene amount of cables, you're not alone. We were too! It turns out that the original owner worked for CBC and wired the entire house to have multiple speakers in every room. Yeah, even the bathrooms. We just keep finding speaker wires EVERYWHERE. Attached to the family room is the "sunroom." I put that in quotations because it's a piece of deck covered with carpet and a bunch of sliding doors going all the way around it. With a roof. But you know what? I love it. The deck is the same unfortunate colour as the brick and siding. This is easily like top 3 on my list of least favourite colours. Figures I'd buy a house that is almost all burgundy (or is it maroon?) on the outside!Alright, let's head upstairs. There's a small landing at the top, one more step, and some crazy railing in between. The bathroom is immediately at the top with two rooms to the left and two more to the right. This is the only bathroom upstairs, and it's a real gem. Truthfully, the super deep tub is awesome, and this bathroom has a fan, which is already a massive improvement on our last house's, but it's quite small and the sink feels really tucked away in a weird way.Oh, and let's take a closer look at that wallpaper border. Yes, those are babies and children. When was this ever a thing??The rest of these rooms are just boring bedrooms. This is the last wallpaper border. With baseball players. Seriously, did they mean to have people on all the borders? So weird. The baseball player room and this one will become one large room and we'll eventually be adding a bathroom as well. There will be a walk-in closet put in, and that makes me giddy! Mostly because it means we have a place that can be a bit messy and it doesn't have to be our actual bedroom. This will be the nursery, at the front of the house. It was the original master, and I can't wait to see the boys grow up sharing this room! It's large and so is the closet, so we think it'll be the perfect space for them! Finally, this small room will be a playroom/office (for now). I like that I'll be able to work and watch them at the same time, and that door to the right leads to a huge bonus space, which will be divided to become our walk-in closet and then used to extend this room.I, of course, forgot to take a picture of the bonus space I mentioned, so here's one from the house listing that I'm probably not actually allowed to share. Oops.I'll update you guys soon on the changes that we're making. There are A LOT so far, as you can probably imagine, and you can get some peeks into what's going on over on Instagram, as well. We have some really talented friends working on everything from removing walls to making over that fireplace and I would honestly share all of the pictures right here right now but there are a lot, and this blog post would take you like 3 weeks to read, so... next time! And there you have it. So.....tell me! What do you think? Be honest. But maybe not too honest! haha!
