Kids Closet Organization

This closet has not been empty since before we fully moved into this house. Because the nursery was one of the first rooms we finished, the closet has had random stuff in it for the last 2.5 years, and what started as a pretty empty space (because we mostly kept things in drawers), quickly became a disaster zone - especially after we turned this into a shared big kids room!Thanks to our friends at Kitchen Stuff Plus (who kindly sponsored this post), we now have an organized kids closet on a budget!To give you an idea of what we started with here are some before photos:Yes, those are paint cans in the closet. Seriously, this closet needed H.E.L.P.!!!!Purging was first, and if you want to see the whole process, you can check the story highlights on the KSP Instagram account!Let's have a peek at this...I started with a closet organizer that would add some shelves and a lower hanging rod for the kids to be able to reach. The laundry hamper also makes it easy for them to toss their own clothes in (haha as if!) and keeping it in the closet means I don't have to walk into a room with dirty laundry all over, because apparently emptying the hamper is super fun!The shelving can be put on the lower part of the organizer, but I put them up high to keep things out of reach of the toddlers! Here I can now store extra bedding, diapers, bags for the diaper pail and their medicine. I found it makes more sense to keep that in here because we're often in their room when we give it to them. The InterDesign cosmetic bin is great for this with different sized compartments!On the top shelf of the closet, I used the Axis bins in different sizes to store a few different things, like extra clothes (that they don't yet fit into), blankets, books for when they're a bit older, and their little memory box with sonograms, newborn diapers, and their hospital bracelets. Cue the tears!Hanging off to the side I have next Winter's coats and dress clothes hanging up high, because they almost never wear that stuff.I already had the small hangers, but KSP sells these non-slip hangers in bigger sizes, if your kids are a little older.Here's the full closet now, which is such a happy happy sight for me, I can't even tell you.You may also notice the little latch at the top of the closet... that's so the kids don't get in there. I do what I can to keep things organized for longer than 2.7 minutes!But let's see a REAL before and after side by side, shall we?And for the sake of real life.... there was definitely much laundry to be put away the day I did this, and the hallway looked CRAZY with 6 bags of clothes to be donated.
