One Room Challenge: Laundry Room (Week 3)

Well, here we go. Week 3 is upon us and my post is late once again, but this will be the last week that's going to happen because we are FINISHED with the kitchen and master bedroom makeovers, and now it's allllllllll about the laundry room. If you want some peeks at what the finished rooms look like, check my Instagram account and the Leon's Furniture account. Now for the laundry room...This week we did manage a few small updates. I built the frame for the sink base, and tried out some paint colours on the walls. I got 3 samples of Behr paint in pale blue, ranging from a pink, to something a little muddier, to peach. I'm not sure I like any of them, so help me out, here! The first one is VERY pink. I'm not sure it's what we're going for in this room. The last one may be too peach, and I'm not a big fan. The middle one is the closest to what I imagined, but reads a little brown depending on the light! (They're in the same order above as below, btw.)If you have ever used Behr paint in a pink room before, help me out. I have about 1 dozen other paint chips I'm about to tape up to the walls, otherwise I'll be spending the entire paint budget on samples! The other thing I did was build the base cabinet for the sink. It was so incredibly easy to do! Take it from someone who has an IKEA kitchen and built several cabinets... these are EEEEEEEASY to build! This is the one I got from The Home Depot, and I am so impressed! We don't have doors yet because I want to wait until the sink is here so we know what size we need, plus we're making them ourselves. Yes, we're making our own cabinet doors. Have we lost our minds? Only time will tell. Why were these so easy to build? Well the hardware pieces are already put in for you and the wooden dowels come with glue on them that are activated with a little water, which you apply with a damp sponge or paper towel.See how the dowels are green? That's the glue. I built the cabinet by myself while the kids played in the other room and it took me no longer than 10 minutes to do it. Not too shabby, right?I did make a mistake, however - the white piece at the front of the cabinet shouldn't be there because we have an apron-front sink going in. This beauty, from Blanco Canada, to be exact:I am so excited for this sink, you guys!!! The sink is the first thing you see as you walk up to the laundry room, so it was important to me that it be functional AND pretty, and this sink is both. This is the view I'm talking about:Rather than cabinets above, I think I'll just have an open shelf or two. The backsplash will be the same subway tile we have in the kitchen, and the cabinet doors we're making for the uppers and the lower will be painted with Fusion Mineral Paint - only my favourite paint of ALL TIME. It'll be one of these three colours, or perhaps a custom mixture of them:I still haven't decided if one wall will be floral, or lemons, or if I'll just leave it plain pink, and I have not chosen a rug. I know. I'm living on the edge, here! Next week HAS to be the week I have decisions made or these things will not arrive in time for the reveal. Cross your fingers for me!Don't forget to check out all of the fabulous companies sponsoring me on this room makeover, and the other participants going through this 6-week whirlwind we lovingly know as the One Room Challenge!
