Painting furniture s nothing new in my household, but I think it's safe to say I stepped it up a few notches with this last project. HomeRight was kind enough to sponsor this month's Modern Handmade Home series, and I have to say that painting furniture with a paint sprayer has officially changed my life! Here's the piece I started with:This bad boy has already been painted once by my dad, but the brown colour really wasn't jiving with me, and I had been meaning to paint it for a few years now, but never got around to it. And yes, I said years.Using our amazing spray shelter (seriously going to be using this ALL THE TIME), I removed all of the hardware and got to work. Using the Super Finish Max Extra HVLP Paint Sprayer was so simple. I literally just filled it up, plugged it in, and got to work. This took all of 10 minutes.I used PARA Paints Melamine and Cabinet Paint, and didn't thin it at all!Knowing this is a piece that will stay in our backyard's covered deck area, I didn't try too hard to make it perfect. I literally painted it just as is, and was even able to paint inside the cubby spots! In between coats, I used regular black spray paint to update the hardware, and this whole thing was painted within less than 2 hours, and only about 20 minutes of that was actual painting time. The rest was just me waiting for paint to dry!Since it's still Winter, I brought the buffet inside. I was extremely tempted to leave it in the dining room as is because it actually functions so well in there! But I guess having a dining room table is more important...Here's the finished piece! (Excuse our very dirty mirror. Toddlers live here.)The top of this piece was stainless steel and had been dented up during its life in our last house, so I replaced it with some rough cut pine that I sanded down and stained. An easy and inexpensive fix!Keeping the hardware the same meant not having to spend any extra money on this, and I like that! I'm so looking forward to having a space to store outdoor toys, barbecue accessories, and have a space to serve food when we eat outside! If you want to see more HomeRight projects, head over to these lovely blogs and see what my partners in spray painting love have come up with!
