The Evolution of the Living Room
This post isn't one I was really planning on writing, but with us listing our house, I've been doing a lot of reminiscing, and seeing how our home has evolved over the past 4 years brought me to the room that has changed the most, and has changed so many times I lost count! So let's take a stroll down memory road - and be warned: this post will have lots of badly lit, ill-styled photos!2012: These are the first pieces of furniture we got into this room. I got that red chair when I was 16! Sixteen!!! The sofa was from Leon's (and is the reason I get to work with them now - so cool!).2013: The first gallery wall! This was the first one I EVER put together and I was SO proud of it. You can see that post right here, if you're curious. Ha! I still have a lot of the artwork I used here, including those DIY Silhouettes. The chest was a vintage find that my husband picked out. It's been in almost every room of the house already!2014: New rug, moved the big green monster and TV over, and back to the ottoman as a coffee table... The gallery wall got a few new pieces to balance out the large TV a little bit better. 2015: The faux fireplace came into the room and completely changed things. No more oversized dresser. A couple of new chairs and a thrifted recliner later, and this room was starting to feel a little bit more like us!Still 2015: The gallery wall holes are all filled in and we paint the walls white! Finally!!!! This was 3 years in the making!2016: We completed a makeover with Leon's and added a leather sofa, a new rug, and a buffet in place of the old recliner that was there. This room is now my favourite place to be!This rug is the 6th one we've had in this room. 6 rugs in 4 years. And we FINALLY got it right! It's super soft, but also very easy to clean. So basically the PERFECT combination and we love it! It's also Luther and baby approved! You can catch a few more photos of the finished living room over on Hello Yellow! Here are a some sources, and if I've missed something you're curious about, ask away!Spencer sofa from Leon'sSierra Paddle Rug from Rugs USAAllison Pine Server from Leon'sNatura End Table from Leon'sStump tables: DIYWoven Foot Stool: DIYWoven Wall Hanging: DIYBookshelf from Ikea (no longer available)Blanket Ladder: DIYMirror: HomesensePlant Hanger by Natalie RanaeHave you ever had a room evolve and grow with you like this? Has your taste changed over the years? I feel like I'm a totally different person than that girl, excited to decorate her first home 4 years ago. I crave so much more simplicity in my decor now. I can't wait to share more about the new house and ALL of the work we have to do there!
