A Thrifty Thursday Full of Shiny Things
I love shiny things, don't you?Duh, who doesn't, right?Well I have a slew of shiny for you today, my friends. This week I got busy looking for shiny, though I didn't actually mean to. I just thought I'd hit up some of my favourite thrift shops, and I happened to get quite lucky! Here are some of my best finds this week:
The glass candlesticks are hand blown and were $1.99 each. I know... Crazy. There was no way they were going to stay on the shelf very long at that price and I am so happy I snatched them up!
The set of three brass candlesticks ranged from $1.99-$3.99 each, so all three cost a whopping $9! I can tell you this: I DID let out a little squeal of joy when I saw them and almost spilled my tea. True story, folks.
The fact that there was a fourth brass candlestick, and that it was $1.99 was really just a happy incident, and though I didn't need that fourth one, I got it anyway. I also bought a bag full of candles, so all candlesticks have candles and are ready to be put to use all over the house. I mean business!
The brass needs a bit of love - as in cleaning love! I have sadly not been successful with a cleaner that keeps my brass shiny. Any ideas out there? Also, what are your thoughts on leaving the patina as is? Is it gross, or charming? I can't decide.
Don't let this be an indicator that my excitement for the candlesticks wasn't real, but the real "Oh my gosh I can't believe this is here" moment came just yesterday when I found this little mirrored tray that was literally jumping out and asking me to take her home. Yes, her. She's totes classy and brassy with a touch of lucite and I am in L.O.V.E.
The milk glass vase was $0.99. No brainer. I obviously had to get it. The tray? $4.99. Ridiculous! I added some fresh roses to the vase, and these glasses I bought at Target back in January for a whole $3 (yes, for both), and I swear I heard angels sing.
Now let's be honest, these photos were staged just to show you the goods, but I did actually put them to use around the house!
I decided mason jars had to go from the little rustic bar we've had set up for a few months, and needed a dash of chic in there. This was the perfect addition. I mean Thelma, our little frog which you can see way in the back of the picture above, could clearly use some chic in her life.
The brass candlesticks are too awesome to be hidden, and I love the extra bit of shine they bring to this otherwise matte console, plus I love brass and rustic wood near one another.
It feels right having brass here now too since this console is between our entrance and living room, and the living room has a lot of gold and brass detailing (like on the gallery wall and now on the table lamp) as you can see on the floor lamp.
Brass is easily my favourite metal, in case you couldn't tell. HAHA!
Now I don't have a home for the glass candlesticks or the extra brass one as of yet, but I'm sure it's coming.Any cool thrifted finds in your neck of the woods lately? Do share! You know I love a good thrifting story!xo
