The Bite Me More Balance Cookbook was just released and is already on the #HeathersPick list, and I can totally see why. These sisters deliver on easy recipes for everyday cooking or gatherings (you know, for when those are allowed again) and they more than deliver on the laughs and personality!

I’m a certified beauty blogger now, so deal with it, okaaaay!? Just joking. But I’m still getting questions about my new Maskcara makeup because I have been overwhelmed and intimidated by makeup for YEARS, and with @kelseydianeblog’s help, that has completely changed and turned around.

Guys, I CONTOURED for the first time ever and I think it turned out ok! This is the easiest makeup I’ve ever tried and the best part about it is that it doesn’t really look like I’m even wearing any! As someone who touches her face a lot, this has been a game changer because it also stays in place. Is it magic? I don’t know. Maybe. It’s also not expensive and is free of a lot of icky chemicals my other grocery store makeup had. If you want to get some, I have a link for you.

Anyway, I wanted to post this in my feed because I get questions daily about it and because I genuinely love this product and NOT as a before and after or whatever because makeup should make you happy, and it’s not for anyone else and yes, it can be self-care and let’s stop judging one another for the things we like or don’t like, mmmmk?! 😘

Here’s the thing, real houses get lived in. Messes are made. Everything might have its place, but it doesn’t always end up there. There are movements to ‘normalize’ so many things on social media. Why not our REAL, lived in homes? Why not a little bit of mess?

And how about this for real life: we’re down to our last roll and a half of toilet paper in the WHOLE HOUSE and I’m slightly concerned for our future 😂

Hey. This isn’t a pretty picture of my house or a perfectly staged family photo to share how much I’m grateful for. It’s a photo of my front porch, taken on an ordinary day as I walked out the door for work. I looked down and saw the pretty, blooming mums next to this other plant that was clearly on its last days. I remember looking down and thinking “this scene is so my life right now. There’s so much in it that’s beautiful and blooming, and so much that feels sad, like that little plant. And then there’s me - getting dressed for work and moving along, in and around all of these things.”

@jamiescrimgeour wrote about how she doesn’t like to share things on social media until she has had a chance to process them. I’m the same. I need time to fully process, digest and understand things before I bring them here - most things, anyway.

This past month has been a hard one to digest. I visited a friend for the last time and recently attended her celebration of life. I’m never going to fully process this one. I don’t need to look for meaning in this massive loss because I find meaning in Janet’s life every day because she changed my life. Her voice is always in my head and I ask myself often “what would Janet do?” and then immediately feel a sense of calm. I can see the beauty even on the saddest days because she saw beauty in everything and everyone.

So remember, friends - everyone is walking through something, whether they’re sharing details of that walk or not. Whether they show up with a smile on their face or not. Show kindness anyway. Check in on people anyway. Say something nice anyway. 🤍

Good golly it felt good to DIY something - especially because it was something from a thrift store!!!!

This is the core of my blog and the very thing that got me started on falling in love with hone decor - seeing the potential in a $3 dusty, burgundy lamp!

I have the entire thing logged in my stories today, so you can see the entire process from start to finish… Including what almost ended up being a complete fail!

To top it all off, I am joined by some sweet Internet friends that have found their own thrift store treasures to beautify their homes with. I think the most popular comment I get about this laundry room (other than “omg I love that wallpaper!”) is: “I would totally enjoy laundry more if my laundry room looked like this.”

3.5 years later and I can tell you this: I still hate laundry, but I love this room just as much as I did on the day I finished it! It was the first time I took a chance with colour and pattern (@pmqfortwo guided me through some of my uh-oh moments) and I did it because it felt like there was no pressure. I always thought, “It’s a laundry room, who’s even gonna see it?”

Well, if you swipe through, you’ll see the transformation of the space. From machines being in the wrong place to this room being featured in @betterhomesandgardens. So I guess a few people have seen it now. A few have even said they used similar colours or the lemon wallpaper in their own rooms because they felt inspired (the greatest compliment EVER!).

Let me be perfectly clear: this is clean for this room. Very clean. But over the last couple of weeks I’ve made an effort not to let it be where all the things go to die. Don’t worry though, there’s another room for that and the door is always closed. Anybody feel me? 🙋🏽‍♀️

Just a regular room with a poorly made bed and lau

Just a regular room with a poorly made bed and laundry to be put away forever sitting on the floor. Where doorknobs are used for hanging empty bags and there’s 3-day old water sitting on the nightstand. Where there’s likely chocolate on the bedsheets and a pile of clothes on top of a chair just out of sight. Just a regular ol’ bedroom like a million others. And I have to say, it’s still my haven. Still the place I want to lay my head down in the most. Still reflective of the design I spent hours dwelling over - it’s simply lived in and unstaged.

Going to continue to challenge you to show your lived in spaces ON YOUR FEED. Because just like real bodies and real motherhood belong in the feed, so do our real homes.

Last week I shared a photo of our dining room “as is” when I had just shared a photo of it perfectly cleaned and styled. I don’t think it had a huge impact, by any means, on anyone but myself. I realized how long it had been since I shared a R.E.A.L photo of my house on my feed. It’s easier to share real life in stories where things disappear.

Please know this: there’s nothing wrong with the pretty photos. I love seeing them and follow accounts that share nothing but perfectly styled rooms. I just see a bit of a gap here with sharing the real on the feed.

So this week I’m going to do this: share one styled photo of a room and one “as is” photo taken at a random moment of the day so they can be seen side by side.

This is my room when I make the bed properly, clean the nightstands and clear all other surfaces. It looks like this about 4 times a year and tomorrow you can see it in its everyday state. Tomorrow I’ll share the same room.
