Hallway Update Part 1: painting doors and changing the hardware

Heya! Today I'm coming to you with part one of our hallway makeover, which includes painting the doors and changing our door hardware with Schlage Canada! As part of our Modern Homemade Home series, Schlage is our partner this month as we each tackle a different type of door makeover - you can see more on this at the bottom of this post!Let's start by seeing what this hallway looked like before - messy, boring, and just SOOOOOO white!Let's take it in: the doors that are a mix of painted white and primed (so like, beige), the mismatched doorknobs and hinges, and the crazy mess stuff that literally just needs to leave this house!

Hallway Makeover To-Do List:

  • paint doors
  • change hinges
  • change doorknobs
  • remove furniture and all other crap
  • add console table and possible table lamp/night light
  • change ceiling light
  • change wall sconce
  • hang kids 'ruler'

So where are we at? Well, here's what I've crossed off:

  • paint doors
  • change hinges
  • change doorknobs

Not too bad, right? The doors are painted in Almost Black by Farrow & Ball, and I absolutely love how its turning out with having both the doors and casings painted. It makes the whole thing look a little more interesting, and though the casings are small and simple, they kind of stand out a bit more now. Plus, I kind of love that they will never look dingy with fingerprints again! To see more of how we replaced the doorknobs easily with Schlage (seriously, it's so easy to install these), I have all the details in the video below! For this project I'll be using the Custom Hobson Glass Knob with Century Trim and the Custom Bowery Knob with Century Trim in satin brass. As I get ready to finish this project, I'll be adding some more brushed brass to the space and modern elements to balance the traditional look and feel of this hardware, and I'm so excited for the final outcome!Remember to check out the other Modern Handmade Home makeovers, too!
