I have this thing for pantries. I love the bins, the containers, the labels… but the tiny little storage area we had in our laundry room was 1: inconvenient and 2: small! Did I mention the storage was also being taken up by kids crafts and other supplies? Oh yeah… there’s THAT!
We’ve had our hutch for well over 2 years, and for a while, I was happy to just put pretty dishes inside and call it a day, but as we start to eliminate some unnecessary things from our lives and from our home, the hutch felt like it had to go… until I had a brilliant idea!
Why not turn this piece into something totally useful, in a space that’s closer to the kitchen? So that’s just what I did, and my friends at Kitchen Stuff Plus helped make the magic happen with their amazing organization tools!
To start, I quickly updated the exterior glass. I’m not quite ready for a see-through pantry, so I added wallpaper to the doors and sides. On the inside, I used the Contact Embossed ‘Diamonds’ Shelf-Drawer Liner to make sure the glass shelves were made a bit safer and less slippery. This made all the difference in the decision to turn this piece into our pantry!
The containers are truly the best part of this whole thing. Previous to this, I had a lot of bags with things spilling out of them. I tossed out any packaging that wasn’t working well (hello cereal bag!) and kept the ones that are resealable. My favourite containers? Any of the KSP Easy Lock or Oxo/Good Grips Pop 2.0 ones. I use both brands because they work well together (in the sense that they look very similar), but the KSP ones are almost always less expensive, so it means I get a bit more bang for my buck!
In conjunction with the containers, I added some scoops to the pantry, and they are a lifesaver! I was keeping spoons or measuring cups in some of my containers before, but these OXO Good Grips Pop 2.0 Measuring Scoops are a perfect size, even when a container is full!
Beyond the clear containers, I also love the clear Ksp/Fridge Stor stackable bins I’ve now had for years from Kitchen Stuff Plus! This time I used them for baking supplies and cookie cutters – this way everything is together.
I also love the baskets that can be used alone or stacked. We used these KSP Ashley Stacking Wire Baskets and the bottom one holds all of our extra spices and the top is for one of our favourite snacks – popcorn! The top shelf is now being used to store some dishes we occasionally use and our favourite wine glasses – these are also from KSP and they’re plastic! We got them to use outdoors, but have been using them year-round.
An underrated star in this new pantry is this Joseph Joseph Cupboardstore Expandable Tiered Organizer. We don’t have too many cans to store, but this is great for anything you want to be able to have some better visibility on!
Finally, on the bottom, we keep the appliances that are too hard to store directly in the kitchen – the slow cooker, rice cooker and pressure cooker.
It’s so nice to have a proper place to store everything!
I’m sure I missed a few details in photos, but lucky for you, I also made a video to show you all of the details on everything we have inside!
You’ll see the details on how some of the containers open and some progress shots of the mess before everything became this tidy!
Of course, this is part of our Modern Handmade Home series, so that means you have 3 more inspiring and organized spaces you can go see from my sweet friends! Go check them out!
Thanks so much again to our friends at Kitchen Stuff Plus for sponsoring us. As always, all opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support this little blog!
