Ok I’m freaking out a little. Our floors are still not done, you guys. It’s been a crazy few weeks for Alex and he hasn’t had much time to work on them, and I’m afraid if I try to do it myself I’ll just mess it up, and I would be required to use a jigsaw. Casey from Waffling can attest that I am not really great with those!
Anyway, there has been some minor work done this week. More dresser painting and hardware purchasing and the headboard is well underway.
Here are the handles I’ll be using on one of the dressers. They’re just replacing the bottom 3 because one was missing. I went to Lee Valley Tools, and it was like a little slice of heaven in there! So much to see! The new handle is the middle one, the old is the bottom. I went with these because they’re similar in style and colour and I won’t have to make new holes in the dresser!
Speaking of dressers, the other one has been painted too! Same colour, and the hardware will be grey also rather than brass. That’s because I wouldn’t remove the hardware. Oh well!
And the headboard! It’s coming along…After two layers of mattress foam and batting, this bad boy is ready to be finished!
I’ve measured out where the buttons will go. Just gotta make the holes now!
The buttons for the headboard will likely be white, but I am considering gold, too. The white is my gut instinct because it’s classic and timeless to go white on white, but the gold could be super fun. What do you think?
There will also be brass nailhead trim along the sides. They won’t be too visible, just enough to add a nice finishing detail.
Ok, so I guess that’s it?! The vision is slowly coming to life and this last week will be a challenge, but also super fun. I can’t wait to have this room together in a week!
Now seriously, please weigh in on my button dilemma!

I vote for white buttons! It will look nice and clean and will let the nailhead trim be the star :)
Looks like white will win!
hmmm….Im kinda feeling white buttons??
PS- I know you could master that jigsaw, girl! Ill come over and hold the plank for you!
Yep… white was my initial thought! Maybe one day I’ll master it… but I won’t practice on my new floors haha
white buttons! :D
I have a feeling white will win haha
I feel for you. Do what you can. Strategically placed rugs or furniture might let you get reveal photos in time. :) My first instinct was white buttons, but knowing your love of gold, I agree with you that it could be fun. The risk is it’s not quite as timeless and you may end up redoing the buttons if you change your mind down the road.
I was just thinking about the rugs and furniture placement and masking the potentially unfinished floors, but I’m mostly banking on actually finishing!
Honestly, the battle of the buttons continue… I love the idea of the gold, but I’m afraid I’ll get sick of it. I guess, like you said, I could always switch the buttons. Decisions, decisions…
I’m throwing a wrench into the works with my response. I know I’d get tired of the brass or white buttons. I’m voting for self-covered buttons (with matching material from the headboard). Hey, what can I say…I’m a wingnut! Good luck with whatever you pick, Thalita!
Sadly, it’s one or the other. I’m using leather, and covering buttons with that is impossible because it’s so thick. Originally, when I was going to use linen, the plan was to cover buttons. I’m hoping the white will be close enough to the sheen and colour of the leather to give off that look!
I was for the gold , but I guess white with the nail trim will be more your style. I am looking forward to see it and waiting for you to come to help me with my Reno . :)
Oooh, a tough decision as I love gold but maybe with the nailhead trim it would be too much so my vote is white as well. I mean you could always gold leaf the white buttons if you change your mind. lol
HAHA genius! Gold leafing the buttons would certainly be a good option if I ever got sick of the all while look!
I’m throwing another vote in for the white buttons. I do think the gold would look cool, but the white is timeless and understated whereas the gold I feel like you might wake up one day and completely hate it. And don’t stress about the floors – you can always hide it with a few well placed rugs and creative camera angles. You’re doing an amazing job. Can’t wait for the reveal next week. Hopefully we’ll make it there as well. Good luck!
Well as you know, white buttons won! And I didn’t need to camouflage the floors! Thank goodness…
I’m so glad I could finally catch up on your blog – how amazing that you’re doing this all by yourselves! Wow! I love everything so far, and I cannot wait to see the finished room.. I just know it is going to be so elegant and calm and classy! For that reason, I also vote white buttons… better to go timeless.
Go get em girl! xxx
So glad I listened to all your wise voices on the white buttons! Thanks, friend!!
Everything is looking so pretty! Such a tough decision about the buttons; I kind of lean toward the gold, though either will be a good choice. :)
Thanks, Carrie!! It was a tough decision to make, that’s for sure!
When I did the ORC last time around, I did my master ensuite and thought I would never finish on time. Honestly, you may surprise yourself with what you’re able to accomplish during crunch time! You’re doing an awesome job. Look forward to next week (floors or no floors ;)
Such a great challenge, despite the stress!! Thanks so much, Sabrina!!
White for the buttons and I can’t wait to see the headboard:) And I feel you on the floors…I’m in the same vote but mine is a tiling hold up. Crossing fingers for both of us!!!
Thanks so much, Christine!! So glad I went with the white… whoa!
That dresser is gorgeous! I would do gold buttons because there is something about splashes of gold in decorating, especially the style and colours you are using, that just “do it” for me. I prefer silver when it comes to jewelry, but gold is like little unexpected bits of richness in a room. That being said, the white would look great, too. You can’t go wrong with either, IMO.
I went for the safer white, mostly because the thought of replacing these buttons if I got sick of the gold was just too much lol!
lovely! I vote for white buttons but I am pretty timeless and simple like that……gold would look good too so I don’t think there is a wrong choice in this situation. Can’t wait for the reveal this week!
Thanks so much for the encouragement! I swear, these comments kept me going these past 6 weeks :)
