Hey, friends! So ummm... what's up with the hashtags? Well, if you follow along on Instagram [and you most definitely should], you may have noticed a few pictures about styling a certain coffee table with a certain sectional sofa. Like these...Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/Why? Because I was super lucky to team up with Leon's to make over one of my best friends' living room. Here's a little back story: a few months ago Lara and her husband bought a house, and as Lara worked on furnishing her home, she asked me where she should look for a sofa. I immediately said, "Leon's!" It happens to be where we got our sofa, and I knew they had some pieces in there that were just to die for! As luck would have it, she DID get a sofa there [the Victory Sectional, to be exact], and then I was fortunate enough to give her the good news that she would also be getting a coffee table! YAY! We shopped around over at the Stockyards location [I really wish I had pictures, but my phone died. DIED!!! Ugh!] and found the perfect coffee table - she's called Flow, which I love. Here's a shot of the sofa and table together before we got to styling!Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/As you can see, we're working with great pieces to start with here. The sectional is the perfect warm grey, and the coffee table is a great size, but doesn't overpower the space since it's glass.Ok so should we just get to the styled looks already? You got it. There are 3 looks, so you can really get an idea of how this combo can match just about any style or taste!

MASCULINE CHARM

Look #1 was inspired by men. Ha! Just kidding. No, but really though, I wanted a space that a guy would appreciate. I don't know why, but I tried to picture what Hugh Hefner would want a cabin in the woods to look like when I was styling this. Is that weird? Anyway, weird or not, I was going for a classic masculine rustic look, and here's what I got:Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/Do you see a little Hef in there? Maybe with that dark wooden box? Alright, fine... never mind. Side note: a box like that on a coffee table is a great spot to hide the remote! Here's a closer look at what's on the table:Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/I really wanted to make use of the space underneath the table to showcase more of the rustic details. The stool you see there was a thrifted find makeover, and you can find the full tutorial right here! I used antique books in dark and warm tones, and that magnifying glass to add class to the rustic candlestick and stool.Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/On the other side of the table we have much lighter elements with some DIY painted mason jars [with tea lights inside], an all white snow globe and faux antlers. On the sofa I placed a faux sheepskin rug, two black pillows, a white leather pillow and a handmade blanket [post also coning soon on that]. The two printed pillows actually come with the Victory Sectional! Can you believe that? A great sofa that comes with great pillows. Amazing.Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/The whole look felt really cozy and made me want to go sit by a fire. Maybe on that sheepskin with a book and a hot cup of coffee? Yes please!

BLACK, WHITE & GOLD

Always, always, always a winning combo, I needed to throw in my own faves and have a little black, white and gold in there. The great thing about this look is that it's pretty versatile and can work well for a couple - there isn't anything either too feminine or masculine about the look. It's neutral in all senses.Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/Sure, there's some glitz and there are flowers, but that's because both of those things are awesome, so there. I kept the blanket on the couch for this one because it's so neutral and the sheepskin is actually in the basket under the table. The black and white tray [DIY here] is great as a catchall for those times when you just need to take your earrings off before catching the next episode of Suits, amiright?Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/My favourite thing about this look is the mix of textures - the peonies, the brass tray and the blanket underneath. Yum!Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/You'll notice the use of two different trays this time. I do love trays, but not just because they're pretty - because they's useful and they trick your brain into seeing organization rather than clutter! The leucite tray is really simple - 3 vintage brass candlesticks, DIY coasters, and a disco ball. Underneath the tray I placed a piece of marble contact paper, which can very easily be switched out for any other print - such an easy trick!Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/The sofa was styled pretty simply - two black and white cushions and the white leather one again. Super neutral, and super versatile. Black and white is great all year long, and it would be very easy for Lara to throw in some prints once the Spring arrives to liven this up!Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/

KATE SPADE PINK

I'm pretty sure Lara's husband would hate this look [mine probably would too], but I just HAD to throw in a super girly look - I did start with the manly one, didn't I? This one was entirely inspired by queen of colour and fun - Kate Spade. Tons of pink and a hint of that amazing green, and this would be a great look for a bachelorette, or a lady with a very understanding partner. Ha!Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/Books were key here - one of them being one of Kate Spade's own because that green is magic! Also a hint of black and white and some gold for good measure. On the sofa I placed a very pink pillow with a fun owl print to tie in the colours of the table. Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/The same DIY mason jar from the first look was used here, but as a vase with peonies this time. Under the table is a thrifted brass magazine holder, which feels really light and airy despite holding heavy magazines thanks to the glass panels. I love this thing!Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/The black and white comes in via this adorable cup and saucer [also thrifted], which I used to place some matches in. There's a little surprise I'll be sharing with you soon about this little combo - hint: it's actually a useful decor item!Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/The brass candlesticks and pink candles are thrifted, and the pink book is just covered in wrapping paper to match the decor - another super simple trick to making what you already have work for you! I also made a fake bookmark out of green ribbon for it because it's all in the details!Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/As another nod to Kate Spade, I left a black and white striped pillow on the couch [though you can't see it here], and used the white leather one on the other side.Living Room Makeover with Leon's Furniture | The Learner Observer | http://thelearnerobserver.com/flowtable-meets-victorysectional-x3/Super girly and super fun! I also love that there are special pieces on this table - the Eiffel Tower from a trip and the diamond-shaped paperweight which was a gift from mom. Personal touches are always welcome!

NOTES

My top 3 tips after styling this living room:

  • You don't have to change everything. That blanket, the white pillow and the pillows that came with the sofa, for example, are in all 3 looks because they're neutral. You can just swap a few accessories when you want a different look and keep what you love or what's neutral around.
  • Leave a little space on your table. I left some room the table for setting things down, like drinks or plates, because I don't know about you, but I tend to eat and drink in my living room!
  • Use the space under the table. Yes, it's nice to be able to put pretty things under a glass table, but it's also a great spot for storage, whether it's for a footstool, extra blankets, or magazines. And sure, go ahead and make that stuff pretty, too!

So what did you think? Which look is your favourite?
