The Junction Flea

Ever since reading this post on Style North about The Junction Flea, I have wanted to go!  Amy also posted about it, and that just fueled the fire.  I can't believe I learned about this so late in the game!  For those of you who don't know, the Junction Flea happens every second Sunday of the month right at (you guessed it) The Junction in Toronto.  Admission is $2 per person and worth all 200 pennies.  You're about to see why!Union Jacks were everywhere!  Since becoming wildly popular over the last few years, I can see why there were so many.  Also popular were: wire baskets, metal stools (which were all a bit over priced or I would have come home with one), old photographs and cameras, and memorabilia (like magazines, board games and records).I definitely made my brother pose with me for a quick photo.  We are total dorks.  My favourite part of the market was the styling.  Booths were well styled (though some obviously too carefully curated as well) and the feel of the place was easy going and fun - the streamers and bunting helped!  People were super friendly, and there's not a lot of haggling happening - prices were pretty fair, for the most part.Okay... the food!  There was surprisingly quite a bit to choose from!  I tried the pork & bok choy dumplings - NOT DISAPPOINTED!  They were scrumptious.  Also added a little mango saison (beer) that was sweet and spicy and just right!  The popsicles - oh my!  We all tried a different flavour and each was better than the last.  I had strawberry basil lemon and it was just as it sounds - sweet, refreshing and wonderful.I came home with an old book (shocking, I know), a map of France to be framed (eek!!!), some old kitchen utensils to be hung (one of which is not pictured), a golden necklace (also not pictured), a sweet little lidded container (actually purchased just outside of the flea at a nearby shop), an old tobacco container (ugh... didn't take a photo again!), and that awesome metal bucket that just reminds me of my grandmother so much I NEEDED to have it in my house.  I can't decide if it should be hung on the wall or used as a planter yet...And there you have it - my day with the family at the Junction Flea Market.  If you want to come to the next one, I will probably be there again.  It's happening September 8th and the last one of the year will be October 13th.  Check out their site if you want more details!
