5-minute DIY: Twisted Bracelet {SCARF WEEK}
Hello friends! Today is the official first day of Scarf Week projects, and I am SO. EXCITED! My first project is an easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy-5-minute project you can make any day, any time! All you need (technically) is a scarf. For realsies. That's it!
These are oh-so-cute for Spring and Summer, or any other season, really, as long as you don't choose pastels like I did! I am not kidding when I say this takes 5 minutes. It also doesn't require many materials, which is always a bonus, isn't it? Here's what you need:
Yep. I forgot to put my scissors in there to take a photo of them, so I improvised. Those scissors are totally to scale, too, I know!!
I got this scarf at Value Village. Yeah, there's a first for everything... It cost $1.99 and was 100% silk, which I thought was impressive! The beads I got at a craft store and I found them in the kids craft area - they were the only beads with larger holes in the middle as you can see in the picture.Now let's get to how one makes this silk scarf into a bracelet. It's simple... just start twisting!
True story: I let this scarf go like 7 times and had to basically start over each time. That's the thing with silk, I guess: it's slippery! If you can bribe a child or husband into holding one end for you while you twist, do that. It'll make your life way easier. Luther wasn't willing to cooperate, so I was on my own!
So, once you've twisted enough, eventually the scarf will start to twist into itself... like so:
At this point, you can stop twisting and do one of two things. The first is to add a wooden bead to the end. This can be done either by twisting the ends of the scarf some more (the twisting never ends here, folks) so you get it into a fine point, or you can use something like a bobby pin to shove it in there. I started with option 1, and quickly moved to option 2.
Tie a knot to keep the bead from slipping out and then cut off the excess scarf fabric from the ends.
The second thing you can do is skip the bead altogether. That's right... you could make this bracelet with just ONE thing: a scarf! This option means you have to tie a pretty thick knot at the end, just thick enough that it doesn't slip out of the loop when you close up the bracelet. See? It pretty much literally does not get any easier than this - unless you manage to not let it go 7 times like me during the twisting portion. Then it's definitely easier!Can we take one final look at these cute little DIY bracelets, please?
And just to finish off all the pictures of this project, here's a super duper easy to pin set of images for ya!
