One Room Challenge Fall 2019 - Week 3

Here's the beauty about doing two spaces instead of one for the One Room Challenge: you always have something to do and you're just always always always stressed out. Sounds awesome, right? Ok... maybe not, but having done this 7 or 8 times before, I can safely say it's 1000% worth all of the stress and anxiety and having a completed space (or two) after just 6 short weeks is so dang satisfying! Here are a few:

So what exactly happened this week? Well, we got a LOT of deliveries - like a WHOLE bunch! It's very exciting and a little alarming to see so much showing up at our house when it feels like we just purged a bunch of things, but I have to remind myself these are things we needed for these spaces. Things like: larger artwork from Minted, all new bedding from Garnet Hill, a few pieces of furniture from HomePop and a rug from Couristan! This week we got busy changing over some artwork in our bedroom. If you follow on Instagram, you've seen exactly what I'm talking about. Not following me there? Here's your chance to see all things ORC in the highlights named "Fall ORC '19." If you've missed the previous updates, you can read week 1 and week 2 to see the before photos and all of the mood boards. Here's what the mood board for this space looks like:Now, let's take a look at what this space we changed this week originally looked like:Granted, not much has changed in the way of bedding or the rug, but the artwork and sconces have changed dramatically! The sconces are Metal No. 2 by Hudson Valley Lighting Group in aged/antique distressed bronze. It also comes in polished nickel, which I'm obsessed with. The artwork is Warm Gold I and Warm Gold II by Minted. We chose these for a few reasons:

  • they're larger than the last ones, and the light can point down a bit more - this was a struggle before as the light always seemed to bein our eyes!
  • they're plug-in - we didn't have the previous ones wired in and didn't want to do that this time around
  • visually, they're so much better for the space because they're taller and grander
  • I didn't know this was a reason until we installed them but... they're dimmable! So much better for bedroom lighting!

We almost have everything we need to finish the bedroom, but we can't really install everything until the bathroom gets done, so we'll just keep hanging tight until all of our plumbing and tiles get here! Our running list remains:

Bedroom to-do list

  • change rug
  • install wall sconces
  • hang art above the bed
  • hang art above the desk
  • put desk together
  • install roman shades
  • fix crown moulding
  • paint the walls (?)

Bathroom to-do list

  • move plumbing
  • electrical - add a potlight and move the fan, move outlet and switches
  • frame around plumbing
  • frame pocket door
  • drywall
  • install in-floor heating
  • install shower Wedi kit
  • tile the shower
  • tile the floor
  • wallpaper behind vanity
  • paint
  • install vanity
  • install sconces
  • plumbing fixtures
  • hang mirrors and art
  • make shower curtain
  • accessorize
  • have my first shower in my very own bathroom with a door that locks for the first time ever ever ever ever!

It feels quite slow, and we're not working on anything this weekend because both my husband and I are away, but I'm trusting the process and our ability to lose all kinds of sleep to get it done!Check out what the other featured designers are up to!
