Updating the Kitchen with New Hardware

Sometimes the smallest things make the biggest impact, and with all of the changes that we've made in our kitchen, updating it with new hardware is the final step tp altering the look and feel of the space.Hardware is sort of like jewellery when it comes to cabinets. And jewellery can be either modest or bold, large or small, shiny or matte, and can completely alter the look of an outfit. Well, our kitchen's 'outfit' was fine, but the jewellery wasn't working anymore. Let me show you why. When we originally did this kitchen 3 years ago, we definitely had to make some rushed decisions. When it came to the hardware, I ended up going to a big box store and finding the best version I could of what I thought would work. The same was true for the lights (we've since updated the island pendants). I liked the gold, but the shape was never my favourite, not to mention the little 'tabs' on either end that meant getting sweaters, pockets and aprons stuck into constantly! Recently, also, the hardware started to chip and become discoloured, so it turns out they weren't the best quality, either! When Schaub agreed to work with us on this, I knew I needed to do something different. As much as I liked the contrast of the black and gold, I kind of wanted less of it - there's enough going on in our kitchen with the brick backsplash and the subway tile (you can also see how we lightened the grout on the backsplash). I chose a matte black pull that is also more contemporary in style. The Aria pull in matte black was the clear winner for me because it would essentially disappear from a distance, but up close you'd be able to see a straight line - a cotemporary accessory on a very traditional cabinet door.I'm so happy with how everything has turned out and that we're no longer looking at all the things we settled on years ago! Do I still want to make a few tweaks? Absolutely (looking at you, island countertop and stools), but golly, I'm so darn happy with these changes already!Isn't it great how these small changes have all come together to change the look and feel of our kitchen? Now can we somehow make it look as clean as it does in these photos ALL of the time? Thanks again to Schaub for helping us to make this happen!
