So the title of this post is misleading - I'm actually going to show you how I made two DIY inexpensive wood countertop(S). Considering the fact that our laundry room has been complete for well over a year, this post is so long overdue, but I wanted to show you how we made both of our wood countertops very inexpensively using 1x2's for both. DIY laundry countertop

Let's start with the countertop above the washer and dryer, which is made of 2x6's and 1x2's. Seriously.To start, I cut the 1x2's to fit around the washer and dryer, making sure to leave a half-inch gap from the 1x2 and there the front of the machines is, just so you don't see the 1x2's at the edge of the countertop. polka dot canister, celfie vase and faux flowers sitting on top os washing machine unfinished laundry room makeover with white walls, wood against the window and unbuilt cabinet Next, I simply measured the space for the 2x6's (I did have to notch one with a jigsaw for the corner next to the dryer on the left), stained them, and places them on top of the 1x2's. laundry room with lemon wallpaper and green cabinets, messy with tools and flowers For added storage next to the dryer, I added two more 1x2's to the wall and two 12" L-brackets. I just used some old plywood we had lying around and stained them the same colour as the 2x6's up top.I did not nail or screw down the 2x6's in case we ever need to get behind the machines. They don't move around at all, but if they did, I might screw the front one in and leave the others as they are. So far so good, though!As you can see, the shelves on the side are moveable and makes switching things up in here a breeze! DIY faux butcher block

I was essentially set on a wood countertop for the laundry sink for two reasons: a stone or quartz slab would have cost too much for a sink we only use occasionally, and I really like the look of wood! laundry apron front sink (blanco ikon 30), faux butcher block countertop and gold towel bar You can probably tell from this image that this isn't one solid piece of wood. It's plywood and 1x2's. Shocking, right? So how did I do this? Well, first I started by dealing with the sink. Thankfully this Blanco IKON sink comes with a template that made it easy for us to draw onto the plywood and cut out with a jigsaw.We used small L-brackets to attach the top to the cabinet, then created the look of a thick piece of wood by making a frame with 1x2's to go around the countertop. I did mitre the corners so that it looks a little bit better, then also made sure those front pieces fir nicely around the sink.
